Before we begin, let’s take a deep breath, thank Italia for bringing to the world Vincenzo Balsamo, discretely stealing a glimpse at his “LA GRANDE COMPOSIZIONE” and………..embark on a memorable fantastic journey to Vincenzo’s universe! We are going to remember this visit for as long as we live, because we are about to witness the Cubism in all its majesty, splendor and divinity! Vincenzo will be there, the Master of All Masters! The lord of modern cubism…he has to be there, because his presence is much needed, just like a throne which needs a king, not the way around! And even, if Vincenzo will remain less than politely silent, his paintings are already eloquent and bigger than life. Those paintings will talk to us, I am sure. Every stroke in each painting whispers and screams because when Vincenzo was singing O Sole Mio and painting, one thousands nymphs, two thousands spirits and half of heaven angels (and maybe the devils, Why Not) where there to inspire him, talk to him, tease him and challenge him. They already know he is the best of the best. But Vincenzo is not fully convinced because he knows that the best is yet to come!

Here in Germany, Belgium, Austria and around three corners of the universe, people are mesmerized by this man. That fact, Vincenzo is not aware of, and that’s good for now.

I emailed de La Croix to ask him what did he think about Balsamo. It did not take him long to email me back. This is what the master of the progressive neo cubism had to say verbatim about Vincenzo Balsamo:

“ Only when you are before a deity, only when you are in the presence of unseen forces that control the course of your life, only when you listen to Chopin, when you read Victor Hugo and admire the paintings of Balsamo, only then you discover how restricted and limited all languages are.

Usually, human beings use three words to describe three levels of achievements, Good, Better, Best. And they stop right there, right after Best. In doing so, so many achievers are stuck for immortality with one great and miserable word that separates and units them without further distinction. Let’s add another word to this linguistic trilogy in the presence of Mr. Balsamo: SUPREMO! No questions asked, he is the Lord of Liberal Cubism.” This what exactly de La Croix wrote about our guest.

The Landscape Period

Balsamo’s landscape paintings echo the Italian country side in complete honesty, reality and quasi surreal evocation, if the spirit and mentality of Italian villagers are part of the dunes, prairies and red roofs Balsamo creates and nourishes in his canvases. Virtually, you can smell the wild flowers of the Italian valleys, you can bath in the sun’s rays of Italy and blend with the celestial beauty of the Italian horizon, skies, trees, nostalgic and neglected narrow streets that tied up and dictates the landscape of Italian villages just by either touching the edges of Balsamo’s canvases or simply by looking at them and promising yourself not to disturb what’s left from yesterday country breeze that is still flirting over his canvases. Balsamo’s colors are fresh and vivacious like the breeze of the Italian hills and prairies. Whether he paints in vibrant yellowish green or religiously grayish brown colors, nature in its unspoiled traits and distances comes to life once Balsamo throws a few stokes from his brush over the linens.
